How publishing properties to a network works: the 3 modes it can have, whether you can adjust that behavior as a member, and what situations block publication regardless of the mode.
When a network is created, the owner picks one of 3 publication modes that defines how members' properties reach the pool. This page explains all three and how you can adjust your behavior if the network allows it.
The 3 modes

🔒 The owner picks the mode when creating the network, and after that only Mapaprop changes it. It isn't editable in the owner's console: they see it read-only, with a button to request the change. The reason is that it reaches members who already joined accepting a different rule, in both directions. Detail in The rules of your network.
💡 The mode doesn't depend on which features the network has on: a Publication Network can be Mandatory, and an MLS Network with co-brokering can be Manual. They're separate decisions.
Your personal setting, if the network allows it
On Manual and Automatic by default networks you can change the behavior for your account, without affecting other members.

⚠️ The most important thing in this table is the second row: switching to Manual does NOT remove what already went in. To take a property out of the network you do it one at a time, from that property's publication panel.
🔒 If the network is Mandatory, the switch appears disabled with a lock. It's a requirement of the network, not an error: by joining you accepted those terms.
The moment to decide is when you join, not after
If you join an Automatic by default network, on the connection screen the option "Automatically publish all my properties on this network" appears already on — because that's what that network does. When you hit Activate Connection, your entire catalog enters the network at that moment.
If you don't want to share everything, turn it off there, before confirming. Doing it afterwards undoes nothing: the properties already went in and have to be taken out one at a time.
Effective mode: what actually happens
The combination of the network's mode and your setting determines the effective mode, which is what the system uses to decide whether to publish each property.

When the mode does NOT publish a property
Even if the effective mode is Automatic or Mandatory, there are situations where a property doesn't enter the network:

| The property is Sold, Rented, Reserved, or Suspended | It doesn't go in. If it was already in the network, it's pulled out automatically |
| The property is pending moderation or was rejected | It doesn't go in until it's approved |
| The property is unpublished in your account | It doesn't go into any network |
⚠️ These blocks apply always, regardless of the network's mode or your personal setting. A Sold property never appears on a network, even if the network is Mandatory.
💡 The moderation that blocks is your own account's, not the network's: it's your office's internal approval before a property gets published. See Property moderation.
🔁 If a property was already in the network and falls into one of these states, it leaves on its own. And if it becomes available again, it goes back in without anyone doing anything.

Don't confuse it with publication on websites
They're two separate switches, and it's the most common confusion:

You can be contributing everything and still have the catalog not appear on any site. The second one has its own three modes, only exists on the MLS Network and the MLS Network with co-brokering, and you need the Business plan to take advantage of it. See Networks — Publication on websites.
