If your domain is already working somewhere else and you have mailboxes on it (info@yourrealestateagency.com, sales@yourrealestateagency.com), bringing it to Mapaprop follows an order that is worth respecting. Done in the right order, nothing breaks; done backwards, email stops arriving and nobody warns you.
Why you have to be careful
Your domain points to a set of DNS servers (the nameservers), and that is where all of its configuration lives: which server your website goes to, and which mailboxes your email goes to.
When you delegate the domain to Mapaprop, those servers become ours. The old configuration is not copied over on its own: if your email was defined at your previous provider and we do not restore it on this side, messages stop arriving.
Email that goes down because of this does not bounce with a clear error. Whoever writes to you gets no notice, and you see nothing unusual: email simply stops coming in. That is why the order matters.
The safe order
Step 1 — Let us check your email (do not delegate yet)
Go to Websites > your site > Internet Domain > Add domain, type your domain and click Check email.
It is a read-only query: it does not modify anything. It tells you what you have configured today, while it is still alive at your previous provider. Once you delegate, that information can no longer be looked up.
Depending on what we find, you will see one of these answers:
| What we detect | What to do |
|---|---|
| You do not have email configured | Carry on, there is nothing to lose |
| We recognize your provider (Google Workspace, Zoho and others) | Confirm that we should restore it and carry on |
| Your email is already on the Mapaprop side | There is nothing to do |
| We do not recognize the provider | Stop here and send us the details with the button on the screen |
Step 2 — If we do not recognize your provider, write to us before delegating
When we cannot identify your email, the screen offers to send us the details in one click. Use it before touching the nameservers.
It is not red tape: it is that we do not want to guess. An email record that is copied incorrectly stops receiving messages without warning, and by then we can no longer look up how it was set.
If your email comes with your hosting (it is the same provider that gives you your web space), tell us that when you write to us. In several of those cases there is an alternative that leaves your email untouched without moving anything, and we will explain it to you.
Step 3 — Configure the nameservers at your registrar
Only now, wherever you bought the domain (NIC.ar, GoDaddy, Donweb, Namecheap…), replace the nameservers with these four:
ns1.pucaralabs.com
ns2.pucaralabs.com
ns3.pucaralabs.com
ns4.pucaralabs.com
The change takes between 1 and 48 hours to propagate across the internet.
Step 4 — Verify and activate
Go back to Add domain and follow the steps. The system checks that the nameservers are correctly set and, if everything is in order, it activates the domain.
Step 5 — Confirm that email is still arriving
This is the step that gets forgotten the most, and it is the only one that really assures you it went well:
- Send yourself an email from an external mailbox (your personal Gmail, for example) to your address on the domain.
- Check that it arrives.
- Send one from your mailbox on the domain to the outside, and check that it goes out.
Do it on the same day as the activation. If something was left wrong, the sooner we detect it, the easier it is to correct.
If you already delegated and your email went down
It is not irreversible. Write to us at websites@mapaprop.com with:
- Your domain
- Who provides your email (Google Workspace, Zoho, Microsoft 365, your hosting…)
- If you have the previous configuration at hand, even better — but if you do not have it, say so anyway
The provider alone is enough in most cases: the email records of each service are well known and we restore them.
While email is down, the messages people send you are not stored anywhere. They cannot be recovered afterwards. That is why it is best to sort it out quickly instead of waiting to see whether it fixes itself.
Frequently asked questions
Can I delegate the domain and configure the email afterwards?
You can, but you will be left without email in the meantime. The order above is preferable: we check first, you delegate afterwards.
My email is with my hosting and I do not want to move it
Tell us before delegating. There is an alternative for that case that does not require moving your email anywhere; write to us and we will go over it with you.
How long does email take to come back if it went down?
Once the records are restored, between minutes and a few hours, depending on how your domain's cache time is configured. The email that was sent to you while it was down does not come back.
Does this affect my current website?
Not until you complete the activation. Your site keeps being served from where it is until the domain becomes active in Mapaprop.
