Once your domain is delegated to Mapaprop, we manage its DNS zone. From this screen you can view and manage the records in that zone yourself: your email MX records, the verification TXT records that Google or Meta ask you for, and any CNAME records you need.
How to get there: Websites > your site > Internet Domain > the domain > DNS Records.
Overview
A DNS record is an instruction that tells the internet what to do with your domain: which server to send someone who types www.yourrealestateagency.com to, which mailbox to deliver the email for info@yourrealestateagency.com to, or how to prove to Google that the domain is yours.
Previously, each of these changes had to be requested through support. Now you can make them yourself.
A badly configured DNS record can leave your site or your email out of service, and the problem is not always noticeable right away. If you are not sure what a record does, do not modify it: use the Report a problem button on the screen and we will help you.
What Mapaprop manages and you cannot change
Some records are the ones that make your site work. You will see them in the list with the Managed by Mapaprop label, without the edit or delete icons.
| Record | What it does | Why it cannot be changed |
|---|---|---|
| NS | Declares that your domain's name servers are ours | It is the delegation itself: changing it disconnects the domain from Mapaprop |
| SOA | Technical data for the zone | The system manages it automatically |
A for yourrealestateagency.com | Points your domain to the server where your site lives | If it is modified, your site stops loading |
A for www.yourrealestateagency.com | The same, for the version with www | The same |
The protection applies only to those two base A records. Any other A record you create (for example office.yourrealestateagency.com) is yours, and you can edit and delete it normally.
The records you can manage
| Type | What it is for | Typical example |
|---|---|---|
| MX | Defines where your domain's email is delivered | Connecting Google Workspace, Zoho Mail or Microsoft 365 |
| TXT | Verification or configuration text | The code Google Search Console gives you, or your SPF record |
| CNAME | Points a subdomain to another address | blog.yourrealestateagency.com to an external service |
| A | Points a subdomain to an IP address | office.yourrealestateagency.com to a machine of your own |
| AAAA | The same as A, but for IPv6 addresses | Rarely used |
How to add a record
- Click Add record.
- Choose the type (MX, TXT, CNAME, A or AAAA).
- Fill in the name. If the record goes at the root of your domain, leave it as it comes; if it goes on a subdomain, type the prefix.
- Fill in the value. This is the data provided by the service you are setting up.
- Adjust the TTL if necessary (the default is 300 seconds; the minimum is 60).
- Save.
The change is applied on our servers instantly, but the internet takes time to adopt it: the machines that have already queried your domain keep using the previous data until the TTL expires.
Email: you do not have to copy the values by hand
When you choose type MX, a provider selector appears. If your email is with one of the providers we already know, select it and the values are filled in automatically, with the correct priorities.
Using a provider from the list avoids the most common mistake when setting up email: copying the servers correctly but getting the priorities wrong, or leaving one out. If your provider is not on the list, choose Manual and type the values it gave you.
How to edit or delete a record
Each editable record has two icons on the right: the pencil to modify it and the trash can to delete it. Deleting asks for confirmation, because the action cannot be undone from the screen: if you delete a record by mistake, you will have to create it again with the same values.
If you have mailboxes on your domain (such as info@yourrealestateagency.com), they depend on the MX records. Before modifying or deleting them, check with whoever manages your email: a badly configured MX stops receiving messages without warning, and the people writing to you do not always get an error notice.
Who can manage the records
Only account administrators, the same as for adding or removing domains.
| Role | View records | Add / edit / delete |
|---|---|---|
| Administrator | YES | YES |
| Agent | NO | NO |
Special cases
"This domain does not have a DNS zone created yet"
This appears on older domains that were added before this screen existed, and on subdomains that depend on the main domain's zone. It is not a problem with your account: write to websites@mapaprop.com and we will resolve it.
I cannot see my email records
If your domain was just delegated, the email records may not be loaded yet. This is exactly what we check when adding the domain: if you had email set up before delegating, the system detects it and lets you know, so you do not lose it.
Frequently asked questions
I changed a record and I do not see any effect. What is going on?
DNS changes are not immediate across the whole internet. Your computer and your visitors' computers keep the previous answer until the record's TTL expires. If you set a TTL of 300, the effect takes up to 5 minutes; if the record already had a high TTL, it can take longer.
Can I change my domain's A record to point it to another server?
Not from this screen. That record is the one connecting your domain to your Mapaprop site. If you want to point the domain somewhere else, the right move is to change the delegation at your registrar, not the A record.
I deleted a record by mistake. Can it be recovered?
Not automatically, but you can create it again. If you do not remember the exact values, write to us: in many cases we can help you rebuild it.
What is the TTL and what value is best?
It is how long the internet servers keep the answer before asking again. The default value of 300 seconds works well for most cases. It is worth lowering it only when you are about to make a change and want it to propagate quickly.
I need help with a record I do not understand
Use the Report a problem button above the list. It opens a ticket with your domain already filled in, so you do not have to explain which one it is.
