My Meta connection expired
Mapaprop is letting you know that your Meta connection has expired. You will see it in any of these places:
- On the Dashboard, the Meta card says "Reconnect Meta" — "Your connection has expired, reconnect your Instagram and Facebook account".
- In Settings > Connect accounts, the card says "Connection expired - Publishing is not possible until you reconnect", and under "Connection Status" it shows Meta: Connection expired.
- When you open the connection, the screen says "Meta connection expired".
While the connection is expired, nothing is published to either network: neither to Instagram nor to your Facebook Page. This is different from the case where only Facebook needs to be enabled — that one is covered in It shows as connected to Meta but I can't publish to my Facebook Page.
Why it happens
Meta revoked the permission you had granted to Mapaprop. It happens for one of these reasons, and none of them depends on us:
- You changed your Facebook password.
- You reviewed the permissions in your Meta account and removed Mapaprop's access.
- Meta revoked it on its own (it does this when it detects unusual activity, or when the ownership of a Page changes).
- The connection went unused for too long.
It is not a Mapaprop error or a problem with your account, and you have not lost anything. Your properties, your previous posts and your settings are intact: the only thing that expired is the permission.
An expired permission cannot renew itself: Meta requires you to authorize it again. That is why we notify you instead of handling it behind the scenes.
How to resolve it
- Go to Settings > Connect accounts and find the Meta (Instagram and Facebook) connection.
- Press Reconnect.
- Log in to Facebook with a user who is an administrator of the Page where you publish.
- Accept all the permissions that Meta asks for. If you remove any of them, the connection is completed but ends up incomplete again.
- Go back to a property and press Publish: the three options ("Both networks", "Instagram only", "Facebook only") must appear as available.
The notice disappears on its own as soon as the connection is re-established. If you still see it, reload the screen.
So that it doesn't happen again
There is nothing to configure, but two things help:
- If you change your Facebook password, check afterwards that Mapaprop is still connected.
- If you transfer the Facebook Page to another person or company, you need to reconnect with a user who is an administrator of the new Page.
How to tell this case apart from others
| What you see | What it is | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Connection expired" / "Your connection has expired" | this case: nothing is published to either network | reconnect, as above |
| "Facebook publishing needs to be enabled" or "No Facebook" | Instagram publishes fine, the Facebook permission is missing | see that help article |
| "Coming soon" on the Facebook row | the permission is under review by Meta | wait, no need to reconnect |
| An error when publishing, with a healthy connection | it is a different problem | see Instagram publishing fails: Unable to generate carousel |
